Both versions have the same performance, dimensions, and ratings. In all dual plate check valves, the center pin (off which the discs rotate) and the limiter bar (which prevents the discs from hitting each other) need to be affixed to the valve body. In a standard body style, the result is penetration through the body wall. In a retainerless design, a sleeve is inserted into the inside of the body, thus avoiding penetrating the body wall.
