<p>Simply put, the electric valve is to use an electric actuator to control the valve, so as to realize the opening and closing of the valve.</p>



<p>It can be divided into upper and lower parts, the upper part is the electric actuator, and the lower part is the valve. The action distance is larger than that of the electric valve. The switching speed of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.zecovalve.com/products/electric-gate-valve.html">electric gate valve</a>&nbsp;can be adjusted. The structure is simple and easy to maintain. Due to the cushioning characteristics of the gas itself, it is not easy to be damaged due to jamming during the operation. However, it must have a gas source and its control system. <p>Electric shut-off valve and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.zecovalve.com/products/gate-valve/">flanged gate valve</a>&nbsp;are the same type of valve, composed of two parts: electric actuator or pneumatic actuator and shut-off valve. The difference is that its closing part is a valve body, and the valve body rotates around the center line of the valve body to realize a valve that opens and closes.</p>



<p>The gate valve is mainly used to cut off, distribute and change the flow direction of the medium in the pipeline. Two-piece ball valve and three-piece ball valve are a new type of valve that has been widely used in recent years.</p>

<p>The gate valve refers to the gate with the vertical motion trail along the central path of the gate closure. Generally consisted by the valve body, the seat, the stem, the wedge, the bonnet and the seal ring, it can be transformed by configuration of transmission devices into a variety of electric and pneumatic gate valves. Since it can only be fully switched on-and-off in the pipeline, never can it be a regulator or a throttle.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-principle-of-gate-valves">The Principle of Gate Valves</h2>



<p>Together with the stem, the gate wedge is in the state of linear motion. The rotary movement, achieved by the top nut and the guide groove rotating alongside the lift rod trapezoidal screw, turns into a linear motion, thereby turning the operating torque into the operating thrust.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-switch-off-of-gate-valves">The Switch-off of Gate Valves</h2>



<p>The sealing surface can rely on the media pressure to seal itself, that is, the media pressure push the sealing surface to the the other side of the gate to achieve the sealing. It is also called the self-sealing. Most of the gate valves are forced sealing ones, that is, the external pressure push its wedge to the seat to ensure the sealing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-switch-on-of-gate-valves">The Switch-on of Gate Valves</h2>



<p>When the gate is raised to a height equal to 1:1 of the valve diameter, the fluid channel is fully open. However, it is impossible to monitor during operation. In actual use, the apex of the stem serves as a symbol of a full open, that is, the fixed position signifies its full open. To take the temperature-caused lock into account, turning to the apex with an afterward &nbsp;1 / 2-1 round back as a full-open position. Therefore, whether it is a full open is determined by the position of the gate wedge (i.e. stroke).</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Electric Actuated Gate Valve</h4>



<p>An electric gate valve is one of the most commonly used cut-off valves, mainly used to connect or cut off the medium in the pipeline, not suitable for adjusting the flow of the medium. The gate valve is suitable for a wide range of pressure, temperature, and caliber, especially suitable for medium and large diameter pipelines.</p>



<p>Electric gate valve is suitable for water, oil, cement, paper pulp, and other media, and is widely used in paper and pulp, power plant, shipyard, wastewater treatment, and so on.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Pneumatic Gate Valve</h4>



<p>A pneumatic gate valve uses a pneumatic actuator instead of a handwheel. By utilizing compressed air, the actuator can spin the stem to raise or lower the gate. This allows it to be operated remotely with no user on-site but requires a pneumatic system on site.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Stem of a Gate valve</h3>



<p>Gate valves are divided into rising stem gate valves and non-rising stem gate valves according to the stem structure and movement mode.</p>



<p>The stem of the rising stem gate valve drives the gate up and down together, and the drive thread on the stem is outside the valve body. Therefore, the opening and closing, and position of the gate can be intuitively judged according to the movement direction and position of the valve stem, and the drive thread is convenient for lubrication it is not corroded by the fluid, but it requires a larger installation space.</p>



<p>The driving thread of the non-rising stem gate valve is located inside the valve body. During the opening and closing process, the valve stem only rotates, and the gate moves up and down in the valve body. Therefore, the height dimension of the valve is small. Non-rising stem valve gates are usually equipped with an opening and closing position indicator above the valve cover, so as to be suitable for ships, pipe trenches, and other environments with small spaces and high dust content.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Disks of a Gate valve</h3>



<p>Gate valves are available with different disks or wedges. The range of the Gate valves is usually made by the type of wedge used.</p>



<p>The most common were.</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Solid wedge is the most commonly used disk by its simplicity and strength.</li>



<li>A valve with this type of wedge can be installed in each position and it is suitable for almost all liquids. The solid wedge is a single-piece solid construction and is practically for turbulent flow.</li>



<li>Flexible wedge is a one-piece disc with a cut around the perimeter to improve the ability to correct mistakes or changes in the angle between the seats.</li>



<li>The reduction will vary in size, shape, and depth. A shallow, narrow cut gives little flexibility but retains strength.</li>



<li>A deeper and wider cut, or cast-in recess, leaves little material in the middle, which allows more flexibility, but compromises strength.</li>



<li>Split wedge is self-adjusting and self-aligning to both seat sides. This wedge type consists of two-piece construction which seats between the tapered seats in the valve body. This type of wedge is suitable for the treatment of non-condensing gases and liquids at normal temperatures, particularly corrosive liquids.</li>
</ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Seats of a Gate valve</h3>



<p>Seats for Gate valves are either provided integral with the valve body or in a seat ring type of construction. Seat ring construction provides seats that are either threaded into position or pressed into position and seal welded to the valve body. The latter form of construction is recommended for higher temperature service.</p>



<p>Integral seats provide a seat of the same material of construction as the valve body while the pressed-in or threaded-in seats permit variation. Rings with hard facings may be supplied for the application where they are required.</p>

<p>Turkey&#8217;s BEKIRLI 2×600MW supercritical coal-fired power station is located on the south bank of the Marmara sea in Turkey, bordering the bosporus strait, with a planned capacity of 2×600MW.&nbsp;The SCR denitrification system and seawater desulfurization system are adopted in the power plant, and the boiler is equipped with a new type of low-NOx burner with excellent performance and an efficient electric dust collector.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Valves Typically Used in Power Plant Applications</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bolted Bonnet and Pressure Seal Gate Valves</h3>



<p>Gate valves have a disc or wedge that acts as a gate that blocks the flow path of media. Not intended for throttling, the main role of gate valves is for the isolation of media with less restriction. To fully utilize the gate valve, only use it as fully opened or fully closed.</p>



<p>Gate valves, together with the globe valves, belong to the isolation valve category. These valves can stop the flow of media in emergencies or when the pipeline needs maintenance. These can also connect the media to external process equipment or it can direct which path media should follow.</p>



<p>The bolted bonnet valve minimizes erosion, friction, and pressure drop. This is due to its straight-through port design. For the pressure seal gate valves, two designs are available for high-pressure and temperature applications: the parallel disc and the flexible wedge.</p>



<p>The bolted bonnet type is still usable in high temperatures but this type can leak when the pressure increases. For applications higher than 500 psi, use the pressure seal valve because of its seal increases as the internal pressure increases.</p>



<p>The design also allows for minimal contact between the media and the disk. Meanwhile, the wedge design makes it less prone to sticking to the seat.</p>



<p>For applications below ANSI Class 600, use the bolted bonnet gate valve. However, for high-pressure applications, use the pressure seal gate valves. High pressure can remove the bolts in a bolted bonnet type. This could lead to leakage.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bolted Bonnet and Pressure Seal Globe Valves</h3>



<p>The globe valve is quite similar to the gate valve but instead of a wedged disc, it employs a globe-like disk that shuts off, turns on, or throttles media. Primarily, this kind of valve is for throttling purposes. The downside of the globe valve is that it cannot be used with media with high flow rates.</p>



<p>The globe valves, in power generation applications, are effective in controlling flow. Additionally, compared to other valves, the globe valve has a simple design, making maintenance easier. The design creates low friction that ultimately lengthens valve service life.</p>



<p>Considerations when choosing globe valves are the type of medium, the flow speed of that said medium and the amount of control needed from the valve. In addition to these, the seat, disc, and the number of turns to open and close the valve should not also be taken for granted.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bolted Bonnet Swing Check or Pressure Seal Tilt Disc Check Valves</h3>



<p>Check valves are anti-backflow valves. What this means is that it allows a unidirectional media flow. The 45-degree angled disc design reduces water hammering as well as can adapt to media with high velocity. Also, the design allows a low-pressure drop.</p>



<p>Check valves protect the entire piping system and equipment from possible damage from reversal flow. Of all valves, check valves, perhaps, take the most damage as these are often more exposed to media and other operational challenges.</p>



<p>Water hammering, jamming, and wedging are just a few of the common issues of check valves. Choosing the right valve means more efficient valve performance.</p>



<p>The bolted bonnet and pressure seal tilt disc valves are more cost-effective than any check valve design. Additionally, the tilt disc design seals more tightly than other check valve designs. Since it has a simple operation, maintaining this kind of valve is also easy.</p>



<p>Check valves are important additions to any application associated with combined cycle and coal-fired power plants.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Metal-Seated Ball Valves</h3>



<p>Ball valves are part of the quarter-turn family. Its main feature is the ball-like structure that turns 900 to open or close. This acts as a stopper for the media.</p>



<p>Power plant facilities use metal-seated ball valves because these can withstand high pressure and temperature beyond 10000F. Furthermore, metal-seated ball valves are more resilient and less prone to seat wear in comparison to their soft-seated counterparts.</p>



<p>Its bi-directional metal-to-metal sealing provides better shut-off capabilities compared to other valves. It costs less to repair such valves too. Since it can withstand high temperatures, it is also fire-resistant.</p>

<p>All valves are designed to stop, allow, or throttle the flow of a process fluid. Gate valves—one of the original valve designs—are ideally suited for on-off, primarily liquid, service. A gate valve functions by lifting a rectangular or circular gate out of the path of the fluid. When the valve is fully open, gate valves are full bore, meaning there is nothing to obstruct the flow because the gate and pipeline diameter have the same opening. This bore diameter also determines the valve size. An advantage of this full bore design is very low friction loss, which saves energy and reduces the total cost of ownership.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Is a Gate Valve?</h2>



<p>The gate valve is a member of the linear industrial valve family designed to stop or allow media flow. This valve is bi-directional with a wedge-like disc that can cut through media with thicker particles such as the slurry. The shutoff action is provided by moving the wedge upwards to open or downwards to close the valve.</p>



<p>As with most shut-off valves, the gate valve is not recommended to use for throttling although it has the capacity to do so, albeit limited. Its wedge gate is highly prone to damage caused by the vibration of the moving media.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How do <strong><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color"><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product-category/gate-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gate Valves</a></mark></strong> Work?</h2>



<p>The opening and closing part of a gate valve is the gate, the movement direction of the gate is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid, gate valve can only be fully open and fully closed, and can not be adjusted and throttled. </p>



<p>The gate has two sealing surfaces. The two sealing surfaces of the most commonly used gate valves form a wedge shape. The wedge angle varies with the valve parameters, usually 5 °, and 2 ° 52 &#8216;when the medium temperature is not high. The gate of the wedge gate valve can be made into a whole, called a rigid gate; it can also be made into a gate that can produce a small amount of deformation to improve its processability and make up for the deviation of the sealing surface angle during processing. The plate is called a spring gate. </p>



<p>When the gate valve is closed, the sealing surface can be sealed only by the pressure of the medium, that is, the sealing surface of the gate is pressed against the valve seat on the other side to ensure the sealing of the sealing surface, which is self-sealing. </p>



<p>Most gate valves are forcedly sealed, that is, when the valve is closed, the gate is forced to be pressed against the valve seat by an external force to ensure the tightness of the sealing surface. The gate of the gate valve moves linearly with the valve stem, which is called a lift lever gate valve, also known as an open lever gate valve. Usually, there is a trapezoidal thread on the lifting rod. The nut at the top of the valve and the guide groove on the valve body change the rotary motion into a linear motion, that is, the operating torque is changed to the operating thrust. When the valve is opened, when the lift height of the gate is equal to 1: 1 of the valve diameter of the valve, the fluid channel is completely unblocked, but this position cannot be monitored during operation. In actual use, the apex of the valve stem is used as a mark, that is, the position that cannot be opened, as its fully open position. In order to consider the lock-up phenomenon due to temperature changes, it is usually opened to the top position, and then back to 1/2-1 turn, as the position of the fully open valve. Therefore, the fully open position of the valve is determined by the position of the shutter, that is, the stroke. In some gate valves, the stem nut is set on the gate plate. The hand wheel rotates to drive the valve stem to rotate, and the gate plate is lifted. This kind of valve is called a rotary lever gate valve, or a dark lever gate valve.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gate valve Operation</h2>



<p>A gate valve operates similar to other valves. To open the valve, turn the handwheel (A), which moves the gate (G) up or down on the stem (B) via the threads. A gate valve requires more than one 360° turn to open or close the valve fully. When the gate is lifted up, it opens the inlet to the outlet allowing an unobstructed passageway for the media to flow. When the gate is lowered, it closes and blocks the media flow.</p>



<p>The relationship between the gate&#8217;s vertical travel and the flow rate is nonlinear for a gate valve, with the greatest changes occurring near-complete closure. When used to regulate flow, the relatively high velocity of the flow at partial opening results in gate and seat wear, which along with possible vibrations of the gate, shortens the valve&#8217;s service life. Therefore, a gate valve should only be used for on/off control.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gate valve Actuation Method</h2>



<p>There are three main types of gate valve actuation methods:</p>



<p><strong><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color"><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product/manual-gate-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Manual gate valve</a></mark></strong>: A manual gate valve has a manually spun handwheel to open or close the valve, as shown in Figure 3. This requires a user on-site to spin the wheel. A manual gate valve is the most economical, especially since the usage of gate valves once installed is typically low.</p>



<p><strong><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color"><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product/pneumatic-gate-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pneumatic gate valve</a></mark></strong>: A pneumatic gate valve uses a pneumatic actuator instead of a handwheel. By utilizing compressed air, the actuator can spin the stem to raise or lower the gate. This allows it to be operated remotely with no user on-site but requires a pneumatic system on site.</p>



<p><strong><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product/motorized-gate-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color">Electric gate valve</mark></a></strong>: An electric gate valve uses an electric motor instead of a handwheel. By utilizing electrical power, the actuator spins the stem to raise or lower the gate. This allows it to be operated remotely with no user on-site but requires electrical power on-site. These are also referred to as <a href="https://zecovalve.com/product/motorized-gate-valve" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="4" title="motorized gate valve" target="_blank" rel="noopener">motorized gate valve</a></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gate Valve Movement</h2>
