Depending on the requirement of the application, any one of the various Titanium Ball Valves grades can be put to use. For instance, grade 1 to grade 4 Titanium Instrumentation Ball Valve are referred to as commercially pure titanium. On the other hand, any Floating type Flange end Titanium ball valve belonging to grade 5 and beyond are considered to be alloyed forms of Titanium Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves. Along with having high tensile strength, the ASTM B367 grade C2 Titanium Alloy Valve has good stiffness and toughness properties. Moreover, the density of Titanium Ball Valves is lower than most metals. In fact, a Titanium ASTM B367 gr C5 Ball Valve will have a high tensile strength to density ratio.
What is Titanium Material?
Titanium is used in steel as an alloying element to reduce grain size and as a de-oxidizer, and in stainless steel to reduce carbon content. Titanium is often alloyed with aluminium (to refine grain size), vanadium, copper (to harden), iron, manganese, molybdenum, and with other metals. Applications for titanium mill products (sheet, plate, bar, wire, forgings, castings) can be found in industrial, aerospace, recreational, and emerging markets. Powdered titanium is used in pyrotechnics as a source of bright-burning particles.
What is a Titanium Ball Valve?
Titanium Ball Valves are made up of different titanium grades. The titanium is a naturally corrosion resistant and strong material. The alloys of titanium can come in nearly 40 different grades. Some of them are nuclear grade, some are food grade and others specified for specific operations. The commercially pure titanium grades are also available. The titanium ball valves are made up of titanium casing with the balls being made of different grades of titanium or other alloy materials. The ball moves up and down the body to open and close the valve. The applications of the titanium valves can be seen in high corrosive, high temperature, high vibration environments such as the titanium exhaust valves in jet engines and in aircraft parts.
Titanium Ball Valve Overview & Application
Titanium alloy valves are known for their high strength to weight ratio. Titanium alloy is a low-density strong metal with good ductility.
Titanium valves are available in a variety of material grades from the most commonly used Grade 2 to alloyed titanium Gr. 5 ,Gr. 7 and Gr. 12. Titanium alloys are aliased R50400, R50550 and R56400 in UNS. The DIN standards are named 3.703, 3.7035, 3.7164, and 3.7165, while the ASTM designation is A182 316Ti.
