<p>Lug-style butterfly valves usually comprise a metal such as ductile iron or steel. They feature threaded tapped lugs positioned on the valve flanges for bolt connections.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is a Wafer Type Butterfly Valve?</h2>



<p>A wafer butterfly valve&#8217;s function is to retain a seal to protect against dual-directional pressure differential in fluid flow. In other words, the wafer version of butterfly valves was designed to hold a tight seal, safeguarding against a bi-directional pressure differential to avoid any backflow in systems manufactured for uni-directional flow. This is accomplished by using a tightly fitted seal, such as an O-ring, gasket, or precision machined, along with a flat valve face on the downstream and upstream sections of the valve.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lug vs Wafer</h2>



<p>In the case of a Wafer-style butterfly valve, the body is annular with a few non-tapped centering holes. Some Wafer types have two, while others have four.</p>



<p>The flange bolts are inserted through the bolt holes of the two pipe flanges and the centering holes of the butterfly valve. The pipe flanges are pulled towards each other by tightening the flange bolts, and the butterfly valve is clamped between the flanges and held in place.</p>



<p>In the case of a Lug-style butterfly valve, there are so-called “ears” over the entire circumference of the body into which threads are tapped. This way, the butterfly valve can be tightened against the two pipe flanges using 2 separate bolts( one on each side).</p>



<p>Because the butterfly valve is attached to each flange on both sides with separate, shorter bolts, the chance of relaxation through thermal expansion is smaller than with a Wafer-style valve. As a result, the Lug version is more suitable for applications with large temperature differences.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Butterfly Valve Lug vs Wafer</h2>



<p>The wafer-style valve usually has two or four unthreaded holes to secure and align the valve within two mating flanges. The lug style has threaded holes that allow the user to take off one end of the line without affecting the opposite side, as it is held securely against one flange with bolts that match the threaded lugs on the valve. This makes it easier to clean, inspect, repair, or replace other sections of pipework, as there is no need to shut down the whole system.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is API 609 A Butterfly Valve?</h2>



<p>API 609 is the American design standard for butterfly valves divided into Categories A and B.</p>



<p>Category A valves are &#8220;concentric&#8221; type. Also known as rubber-lined butterfly valves. These are popular in low-pressure systems (Class 150 or less), relatively lower cycle life, and rubber liners are also good for abrasive slurry services.</p>



<p>Category B valves are &#8220;offset&#8221; type, meaning the shaft is offset from the disc so that they can handle higher differential pressures. Most offset types cause the disc to rotate freely from the seat after a few degrees of rotation, which minimizes seat wear and increases valve cycle life. The offset type can have rubber, polymer (PTFE or other), metal &amp;graphite, or even metal seats. Lots of variety makes these suitable for various temperatures and pressures.</p>

<p>These butterfly valves are commonly used in systems that need to isolate or regulate the flow of seawater. They are designed to be in systems where there are space, weight, and cost considerations. They are also a high-quality valve for seawater service or where the valve is submerged in seawater for commercial applications.</p>

<p>ASTM B148 UNS C95800 is a very strong nickel aluminum bronze alloy. It has good castability, high strength, and outstanding corrosion resistance due to a tough oxide film.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>ส่วนประกอบ ของ วาล์ว</strong></h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Body คือ โครงสร้างหลักนั่นเอง</li><li>Flange คือหน้าแปลนส่วนประกอบระหว่างท่อกับวาล์วในกรณีที่วาล์วมีขนาดใหญ่ ต้องใช้ สลักยึด</li><li>Stem คือ แกนกลางในการหมุนวาล์ว หรือที่เรียกว่าก้านนั่นเอง</li><li>Seat คือ ชิ้นส่วนกันการรั่วไหลของน้ำ มีชนิดที่เป็นยาง และ โลหะ</li><li>Hand Wheel หรือ Arm คือ บริเวณที่เปิดปิดวาล์ว ในกรณีที่เป็น โซลินอยด์ วาล์ว (Solenoid valve) จะเป็นการควบคุมโดยไฟฟ้า ผ่านหลักการคือ การใช้สนามแม่เหล็ก เหนี่ยวนำกลไกการปิด-เปิด</li><li>Wedge ฝากั้น ปิด – เปิดน้ำ ในบอลวาล์ว ชิ้นส่วนนี้จะเรียกว่า Ball นั่นเอง</li></ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ประเภท ของ Valve</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-globe-valve">GLOBE VALVE</h3>



<p>ใช้ในการควบคุมการไหล ใช้กับระบบที่มีความดันแตกต่างกันสูงมากๆได้ ด้วยระบบแบบตั้งฉากจึงสามารถหมุนปรับความเบาหรือแรงของไหลได้ลักษณะเด่นคือข้างในจะเป็นแบบหน้าดิส ตัว Body จะป่องออกมา แต่เนื่องจากมีการเปลี่ยนทิศทางการไหลความดันลดที่ตกคร่อม globe valve มากขึ้นตาม</p>



<p>Globe valve จึงนิยมใช้เป็นอย่างมากในงานที่ต้องควบคุมอัตราไหลของของไหล</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">GATE VALVE</h3>



<p>ใช้ในการเปิดปิดการไหลเท่านั้น ไม่สามารถปรับระดับความแรงของๆไหลได้ อีกทั้งยังไม่มีบ่ารอง valve (valve seat) ที่มักจะใช้วัสดุเป็น polymer ที่ทนอุณหภูมิสูงไม่ได้ gate valve จึงสามารถใช้กับงานที่อุณหภูมิสูงได้ แต่ก็ไม่นิยมใช้กับของไหลที่มีสารแขวนลอย เพราะสารแขวนลอยจะตกไปอยู่ตามร่องของ valve ทำให้ไม่สามารถปิดได้สนิท</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">BALL VALVE</h3>



<p>ใช้ในการเปิด-ปิดเช่นเดียวกับ gate valve โดยจะใช้การเปิดปิดแบบ 90องศา ซึ่งโดยปกติ ball valve จะนิยมใช้ในงานประปาตามบ้านทั่วๆไปเพราะใช้งานได้ง่าย ไม่มีความซับซ้อนอะไร ข้างในมีบอลที่มีรูรอดผ่านจึงถูกเรียกว่า Ball valve</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">KNIFE GATE VALVE</h3>



<p>เหมือนกับ Gate valve แต่ประตูวาล์วเป็นเหมือนใบมีด(มีความคม) เหมาะใช้กับของไหลเหนียว ๆ มีเยื่อใยหรือเป็น ผง ๆ เช่น โรงงานทำกระดาษ, เม็ดพลาสติก อีกทั้งยังสามารถใช้งานในด้านอื่นๆได้อีกมากมายเพราะความคมของใบมีดจึงสามารถใช้ตัดของบางชนิดได้</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">BUTTERFLY VALVE</h3>



<p>ใช้ในการควบคุมการไหล มีหน้าตาคล้าย gate valve แต่แทนที่จาน valve จะเคลื่อนที่ขึ้น/ลงแบบ gate valveตัว butterfly valve กลับใช้การหมุนแทนเหมือนball valve และมี seat valve เช่นเดียวกัน แต่ตัว butterfly valve กลับมีน้ำหนักเบากว่ามากนิยมใช้กับการควบคุมการไหลที่มีการปรับเปลี่ยนอย่างรวดเร็ว มีหลายสเกลมาก เช่น<br>ใช้กับอุโมงค์น้ำทิ้ง, ระบบดับเพลิง หรือกับรถยนต์บางชนิดก็มีวาล์วชนิดนี้เช่นกัน</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">ส่วนประกอบ Butterfly Valve</h4>



<ol class="wp-block-list"><li>ลิ้น (disc)</li><li>ตัววาล์ว หรือ (body)</li><li>หมุด (pin หรือ bolt)</li><li>ซีท (seat) ซึ่งจะแบ่งเป็น</li><li>Soft seat หรือ seat ที่มีความยืดหยุ่น เป็นยาง สามารถเลือกได้หลายประเภทตามแต่ความเหมาะสมของของเหลว เช่น ยางที่ใช้กับน้ำดื่มได้ ยางที่ใช้กับสารเคมีได้</li><li>Hard seat หรือ seat แบบแข็ง อาจจะทำจากโลหะ ใช้กับงานที่ต้องใช้แรงดันสูง อุณหภูมิสูง</li><li>แกนวาล์ว (spindle)</li><li>แบริ่งและซีล (bearing and seals)</li></ol>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">SAFETY VALVE</h3>



<p>เซฟตี้วาล์วหรือวาล์วเพื่อความปลอดภัยจากความดันมีไว้ระบายความดันส่วนเกินออกจากระบบเพื่อไม่ให้เกิดการระเบิด ซึ่งจะสร้างความเสียหายให้ทั้งแก่ท่อและส่วนประกอบอื่นๆ อีกทั้งยังอาจจะทำให้ตัวผู้ใช้งานเกิดการบาดเจ็บจากแรงดันได้อีก</p>

<p>API 609 is the design standard for the American standard butterfly valve, which specifies the structure length is divided into Category A and B, in Chinese the structure length of API 609 A butterfly valve and B butterfly valve, also called the body length. Also different in design/Inspection. Here we focus on Face to face of API 609 Valve.</p>



<p>Butterfly valves are categorized according to their structure. Nowadays, there are more midline/center line butterfly valves and eccentric butterfly valves on the market. The standard length of the American standard butterfly valve used in the center line butterfly valve is the API 609 Class A butterfly valve. The eccentric butterfly valve is mainly a three-offset butterfly valve. The structure length standard adopted is the Class B butterfly valve regulated by API 609.</p>

<p>Manufacturer&#8217;s rated cold working pressure (CWP) butterfly valves, usually with a concentric disc and seat configuration. &nbsp;Sizes covered are NPS 2 to NPS 48 for valves having ASME Class 125 or Class 150 flange bolting patterns.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-category-b-butterfly-valves"><strong><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color">Category B Butterfly Valves</mark></strong>: </h3>



<p>Pressure-temperature rated butterfly valves that have an offset seat and either an eccentric or a concentric disc configuration. &nbsp;These valves may have a seat rating less than the body rating. &nbsp;Sizes covered are NPS 3 to NPS 24 for Classes 150, 300, and 600.</p>



<p>The Class B butterfly valve of the API 609 standard specifies the structure length of the American standard butterfly valve, flange butterfly valve, and lug butterfly valve. In comparison with the national standard GB butterfly valve, the flange butterfly valve, and the national standard butterfly valve structure length is the same, but there is a gap between the clip butterfly valve, especially the 6 inch, 8 inch difference between the two specifications/standard is largest. This is also a way to judge a manufacturer if they are professional in producing American standard butterfly valves.</p>



<p>In the API 609 Category B, the 6-inch to 150LB butterfly valve is specified, the structure length is only 57mm, and many manufacturers, or 70mm, is the same with the national standard valve body, it can be seen that many American standard butterfly valve manufacturers directly to use the national standard valve mold. The valve body was modified to the American standard connection size.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-category-a-butterfly-valves-1">Category A Butterfly Valves </h3>



<p>&#8220;Concentric&#8221; type. Also known as rubber-lined butterfly valves. These are popular in low-pressure systems (Class 150 or less), relatively lower cycle life, rubber liners are also good for abrasive slurry services.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-category-b-butterfly-valves-1"><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product-category/butterfly-valve/triple-offset-butterfly-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color">Category B&nbsp;Butterfly valves </mark></strong></a></h3>



<p> &#8220;Offset&#8221; type, meaning the shaft is offset from the disc, so it can handle higher differential pressures. Most of the offset types cause the disc to rotate freely from the seat after a few degrees of rotation, which minimizes seat wear and increases valve cycle life. The offset type can have rubber, polymer (PTFE or other), metal &amp;graphite, or even metal seats. Lots of variety which makes these suitable for a variety of temperatures and pressures.</p>
