High Performance Butterfly valve

Butterfly valves are generally favored because they are lower in cost than other valve designs as well as being lighter in weight, meaning less support is required. The disc is positioned in the center of the pipe, passing through the disc is a rod connected to an actuator on the outside of the valve. Rotating the actuator turns the disc either parallel or perpendicular to the flow.

What is a High Performance Butterfly Valve?

A high-performance butterfly valve is just an adjective, never a noun most people used. Let’s start with what is a butterfly valve. A butterfly valve is from a family of valves called quarter turn valves. Its name comes from a butterfly-type structure. The “butterfly” is a metal disc (normal, though now we have a plastic valve or other nonmetal material valve)mounted on a rod. When the valve is closed, the disc is turned so that it completely blocks off the passageway. When the valve is open, the disc is rotated a quarter turn so that it allows unrestricted passage. The position of the disc is affected from outside the valve.

Types of High Performance Butterfly Valve

There are different kinds of butterfly valves, each adapted for different pressures and different usage. ZECO, from china, is divided mainly into two kinds of valves.

Resilient High Performance Butterfly Valve

The resilient butterfly valve, which uses the flexibility of rubber or Teflon, PFA, or NYLON, has the lowest pressure rating. They have usually centered disc designs. Typically used for low pressure, normal temperature conditions.

Metal Seated High Performance Butterfly Valve

Usually, the other type is a metal seated butterfly valve, often appearing with a double eccentric design or triple offset design. It is developed from a traditional center line butterfly valve. Somebody calls it a high-performance butterfly valve, used in slightly higher-pressure systems, features a slight offset in the way the disc is positioned, which increases the valve’s sealing ability and decreases its tendency to wear. The valve best suited for high-pressure systems is the pericentric butterfly valve, which makes use of a metal seat, and is, therefore, able to withstand a greater amount of pressure, high temperature, and corrosive and aggressive chemicals. So-called “High Performance” butterfly valves offer zero leakage designs and have been applied in both the chemicals and hydrocarbon processing sectors.

High Performance Butterfly Valve vs Centerline Butterfly Valve vs Triple Offset Butterfly Valve

The high-performance butterfly valve delivers heavy-duty, automatic throttling control flow for applications involving large flow rates and moderate pressure drops. It incorporates the two basic features of the high-performance butterfly valve types: a PTFE, RTFE, or metal seal ring instead of a liner and double offset (eccentric operation) to reduce seal friction and operating torque and provide superior performance compared to conventional butterfly valves.

Usually, these words are used to descript high-performance butterfly valves: High performance, low friction, low torque, metal seat(sometimes PTFE or RPTFE seat), eccentric design, long service life, suitable for aggressive condition, high-cost performance, bi-directional. There are no words to digital or data to define what is a high-performance butterfly valve. It is no apparent difference between high-performance butterfly valves and normal metal eccentric butterfly valves.

So are there any differences between a high-performance butterfly valve and normal metal eccentric butterfly valve?  Usually, a high-performance butterfly valve is machined by a CNC machine with high accuracy, especially some trim parts. It requires better quality control and material class. Many valve experts think the valve should reach some degree of service life. For example, pass 1 million times open close service life test.

Applications of High Performance Butterfly Valve

High performance butterfly control valves are intended for general service applications not requiring precision throttling control.

They are frequently used in applications requiring large sizes and high temperatures due to their lower cost relative to other styles of control valves. They work quite well for constant process load applications. Designs using characterized contour are able to expand the control range to that of a segmented ball valve.

Available end connection styles include wafer, lugged, and double flange.

In a word, high-performance butterfly valve is a word people describe valve with very good quality for high requirement application.
