<p>Static Balance Valve is the main equipment to eliminate the static hydraulic imbalance of HVAC water system and achieve static hydraulic balance. Static balance valve is essentially a damper regulator with a clear &#8220;flow-pressure-opening&#8221; relationship, clear and adjustable opening indication, and good regulation characteristics. In HVAC water system, the static balance valve does not guarantee the flow value of a single pipe in the system. It maintains that during the initial commissioning of the system, the flow ratio of each pipeline in the system is the same as that of the design flow through the regulating function of the static balance valve. In this way, when the total flow of the system equals the total design flow, the flow of each terminal equipment and pipeline also reaches the design flow at the same time. Static balance valves are mainly used in system diverters, branch pipes, and end equipment.</p>

<p>Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICV) can help reduce energy costs and increase occupant comfort in heating and cooling coil applications in buildings. A PICV is best described as two valves in one: a standard 2-way control valve and a balancing valve.</p>



<p>Dynamic balancing valves ensure that the design flow will not be exceeded regardless of pressure fluctuations in the system. These valves can be used in basically any construction-based heating or cooling system. Dynamic balancing is – contrary to static balancing – a completely pressure-independent solution.</p>

<p>Dynamic flow balancing valve is one of the devices to eliminate the dynamic hydraulic imbalance of the system. The essence of dynamic flow balance valve is to keep the flow of the pipeline unchanged in a certain range of pressure differences. Flow value can be customized according to system requirements, so it is also called a &#8220;constant flow balance valve&#8221;. Dynamic flow balance valves are mainly used in the pipelines of the hydraulic systems which require constant flow, such as refrigeration and cooling water pipes of chillers, as well as the terminal equipment pipes of refrigeration and heat supply with variable air volume control system.</p>

<p>Dynamic differential pressure balance valve is one of the main pieces of equipment to eliminate dynamic hydraulic imbalance and achieve dynamic balance in HVAC system. Dynamic pressure balance valve has the function of constant pressure difference at key points. It can automatically keep the pressure difference between two key points in the system at a set pressure difference through the self-supporting mechanism inside the valve. Based on the requirement of a total hydraulic balance system for subsystem constant pressure, graded constant pressure, and equipment constant pressure, dynamic differential pressure balance valve is widely used by system supervisors, branch pipelines, and various terminal equipment.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Dynamic balance electric switch valve</h3>



<p>Dynamic balance electric switch valve is one of the main pieces of equipment to eliminate dynamic hydraulic imbalance and achieve dynamic balance in HVAC water system. The dynamic balancing electric switch valve has the functions of dynamic balancing and electric switch. When the valve is opened, it can dynamically keep the actual flow rate of the pipeline constant at the designed flow rate and is not affected by the system pressure fluctuation. Dynamic balance electric switch valve is mainly used in fan coil units. On the one hand, it has the electric switch function of a traditional electric switch valve. On the other hand, it can keep the flow constant in the design flow of the fan coil when the valve is opened.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Combination of dynamic pressure balance valve and electric regulating valve</h3>



<p>The combination of dynamic differential pressure balance valve and the electric regulating valve is one of the main pieces of equipment to eliminate dynamic hydraulic imbalance and achieve dynamic balance in HVAC water system. The combination of a dynamic differential pressure balancing valve and electric regulating valve not only has the function of dynamic balancing, that is, it can dynamically balance the pressure fluctuation of the system so that the flow through the pipeline is not affected by the pressure fluctuation of the system, but also has the function of electric regulating, that is, it can automatically adjust the opening according to the load change in the target area, so as to adjust the flow value and ensure that the temperature in the target area is always constant at the set temperature. The combination of dynamic differential pressure balance valve and the electric regulating valve is mainly used in air conditioning boxes, air handling units, and fresh air units.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">6. Integrated dynamic balance electric regulating valve</h3>



<p>The function of the integrated dynamic balance electric control valve is basically the same as that of the combined valve. It integrates the dynamic differential pressure balance valve with the electric control valve in one valve body. The integrated dynamic balance electric regulating valve is mainly used in air conditioning boxes, air handling units, and fresh air units.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is a <strong><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product/differential-pressure-control-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color">Differential Pressure Control Valve</mark></a></strong>?</h2>



<p>Differential Pressure Control Valves &#8211; also commonly called DPCVs &#8211; are installed in heating or cooling systems to control sub-circuit pressure to a set or given maximum.</p>



<p>Extremely efficient, the DPCV is set to a maximum differential pressure which ensures flow cannot exceed a desired rate. It, therefore, helps reduce energy consumption, and the risk of noise and simplifies the commissioning process.</p>



<p>ZECO DPCV range includes three different types. A type with pre-set ΔpC (differential pressure across the circuit), a type with adjustable ΔpC, and finally a type being a combined dynamic balancing valve and adjustable DPCV. They offer a flexible range meeting any system demand.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Differential Pressure Control Valve Working Principle</h2>



<p>The differential pressure control valve does not need any external energy. It can automatically adjust by relying on the pressure change of the regulated medium itself, automatically eliminate the flow change caused by the residual pressure head and pressure fluctuation of the pipe network, and keep the pressure difference between the user&#8217;s inlet and outlet constant. It is especially suitable for household metering or automatic control system, which is conducive to stable system operation.</p>



<p>The differential pressure control valve is of double disc structure, with small unbalanced force and compact structure. It is used in the heating (air conditioning) water system to keep the differential pressure of the controlled system constant. According to the differential pressure control valve working principle, users who install the differential pressure control valve do not install the automatic control device. Under the minimum working pressure difference, when the selected pipe diameter is too large and the resistance is reduced, the flow will be too large, which will inevitably cause the hydraulic imbalance of the external network and increase the energy consumption.</p>



<p>The differential pressure control valve is composed of the valve body, valve cover, valve core spring, control conduit, and pressure regulator.</p>



<p>The valve is installed on the return pipe of the heating pipeline, and the working chamber on the valve is connected with the water supply pipe through the control pipe. Eliminate the flow deviation caused by the pressure fluctuation of the external network. When the water supply pressure P1 increases, the water supply pressure difference P1-P3 increases. The pressure sensing membrane drives the valve core down to close the small valve port, so that P2 increases, thus maintaining the constant P1-P2. When the water supply pressure P1 decreases, the pressure sensing membrane drives the valve core to move up and P2 decreases, so that P1-P2 is constant. No matter how the pressure changes in the pipeline, the dynamic differential pressure balance valve can maintain the constant pressure and flow applied to the controlled object.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-self-operated-differential-pressure-control-valve-working-principle">Self-operated Differential Pressure Control Valve Working Principle</h2>



<p>After the process medium is throttled by the valve, it enters the controlled equipment, and the differential pressure of the controlled equipment is respectively introduced into the upper and lower membrane chambers of the valve, generating thrust in the upper and lower membrane chambers, and balancing with the spring reaction force, so as to determine the relative position of the valve core and the valve seat, while the relative position of the valve core and the valve seat determines the size of the differential pressure value. When the controlled differential pressure changes, the balance of the force is destroyed, which drives the movement of the valve core, and the movement of the valve core changes the resistance coefficient of the valve, that is, the controlled differential pressure value is controlled as the set value. This is the working principle of the differential&nbsp;pressure control valve. When the differential pressure setting value needs to be changed, the adjusting nut can be adjusted.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is a Balancing Valve in HVAC?</h2>



<p>A balancing valve is an automatic valve used in an HVAC system that depends mainly on the flow of water through its system to provide cooling and hearing effects in homes or in offices as the situation may require. In designing balancing valves, updated flow technology is employed to ensure that the required flow rate is achieved every time, regardless of the number of times the pressure level within the system changes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Uses of Balancing Valves in HVAC</h2>



<p>There are different types of balancing valves ( refer to later sections of this article for more details about this), however, all of these varieties are used for three major purposes.</p>



<ol class="wp-block-list"><li>To ensure that fluids are evenly distributed among the various flow branches.</li><li>To control the intensity of the water temperature of the heating and cooling system to keep them at a moderate level.</li><li>And lastly, they are used as counterbalancing forces for dualized action cylinders.</li></ol>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-is-a-static-balancing-valve">What is a <strong><mark style="background-color:var(--base)" class="has-inline-color has-contrast-2-color"><a href="https://zecovalve.com/product/balancing-valve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Static Balancing Valve</a></mark></strong>?</h2>



<p>Static balancing valves are also called manual balancing valves, digital locking balancing valves, butterfly balancing valves, and so on. They change the opening of the valve core and seat to change the flow resistance of the valve in order to achieve the purpose of regulating the flow. Their function is to balance the flow of water according to the designed proportion, increase and decrease the branches at the same time in proportion, and still meet the current climate needs of part of the load flow. Quantity demand plays a role in heat balance.</p>

<p>Dynamic flow balance valve is also called pressure independent control valve, self-operated balance valve, constant flow valve, automatic balance valve, PICV, etc. The self-operated flow control valve automatically changes the resistance coefficient according to the change in system working conditions. Within a certain range of pressure differences, it can effectively control the flow through and maintain a constant value. That is when the pressure difference between the front and the back of the valve increases, the flow through the action of small automatic closure of the valve can keep the flow constant. On the contrary, when the pressure difference decreases, the valve opens automatically and the flow remains constant. However, when the pressure difference is smaller or larger than the normal working range of the valve, it can not provide an additional pressure head after all. At this time, the flow of the valve to the fully open or closed position is still lower or higher than the set flow.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Advantages of the PICV</h3>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Easy Selection Pressure Independent Control Valve<ul><li>There is no CV calculation required and after the flow calculation, the appropriate valve can be selected. If the flow is 8.7 GPM the correct selection is a 9.0 GPM valve. Generally, the next bigger valve should be selected. However, an adjustment in the field is always possible considering the adjustable flow range.</li></ul></li><li>Hydronic Balancing Simplified.<ul><li>Pressure Independent Control Valves make circuits independent and they literally decouple circuits or terminals from the system. There is no balancing procedure required and for commissioning, a simple check of ΔT or flow is enough.</li><li>To measure flow, PICVs are available with pressure ports to gauge pressure differential. A valve-specific chart may then be used to locate the matching flow from the gage pressure differential.</li></ul></li><li>Flexible Commissioning<ul><li>Plants can be commissioned in a step-by-step approach. Individual zones can be set up and no rebalancing is required which simplifies adding to the system or remodeling.</li></ul></li><li>One Piece Installation<ul><li>The compact pressure independent valve incorporates the control valve and the balancing valve. Thus, the valve saves 50% of labor costs during installation and investment for the balancing valve. Additionally, about 2/3 of the installation space (pipe length) is saved.</li></ul></li><li>Reduces Pumping Costs<ul><li>The PICV assures that each terminal, depending on its load, obtains the required flow and that overflow can be prevented. Therefore, the total flow will be lower than in systems without pressure-independent valves. The pump head follows a similar behavior and thanks to the automatic dynamic balancing the required pump head is substantially lower.</li></ul></li></ul>

<p>Differential pressure balancing valve, also known as self-operated differential pressure control valve, differential pressure controller, voltage regulator synchronizer, differential pressure balancing valve, etc. It uses differential pressure to adjust the opening of the valve and uses the change of pressure drop of the valve core to compensate for the change of pipeline resistance, so as to keep the differential pressure basically unchanged when the working condition changes. Its principle is within a certain flow rate range, and it can be effective. Controlling the pressure difference of the controlled system is constant, that is, when the pressure difference of the system increases, it can ensure that the pressure difference of the controlled system increases through the automatic closing action of the valve. On the contrary, when the pressure difference decreases, the valve opens automatically and the pressure difference remains constant.</p>

Thus, although the pressure difference ΔP across the damper is increased, the Kv value is reduced, and the product of the two, that is, the flow rate Q, remains substantially unchanged under the action of the spring.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Theory of differential pressure control valve: </h2>



<p>The high pressure upstream of the electric regulating valve is guided to the lower side of the control bellows through the pressure guiding tube; the pressure downstream of the electric regulating valve is guided to the upper side of the control bellows through the external pressure guiding tube or the internal pressure guiding hole.</p>



<p>When the pressure on the high pressure side rises, the bellows moves upwards, causing the valve stem and the valve cone to move upward, causing the pressure on the medium pressure side to rise, thereby dynamically maintaining the pressure difference between the medium pressure side and the high pressure side and the spring. The preset force balance ensures the dynamic constant of the pressure difference across the electric control valve. When the pressure on the high pressure side is lowered, the bellows moves downward, and the situation is similar.</p>

<p>Theory: The essence is that a dynamic differential pressure balancing valve and an electric regulating valve are combined into one. The valve is a double valve cone structure, the upper valve cone is the valve cone of the electric regulating valve, and the lower valve cone is the valve of the dynamic differential pressure balancing valve. Cone, the dynamic differential pressure balancing valve provides a constant pressure difference (0.2Bar or 0.5Bar) before and after the electric valve cone (upper valve cone). The pressure fluctuation of the system is absorbed by the dynamic differential pressure balancing valve, when the electric valve cone ( When the upper valve cone is not actuated, the valve flow capacity kv is constant, and the pressure difference ΔP is constant, so the flow rate Q of the valve is constant; only when the electric valve cone (upper valve cone) acts, the flow through the valve will Changes have occurred, thus achieving a perfect unification of dynamic balance and adjustment functions.</p>



<p>Process: The upper and lower ends of the diaphragm form a balance with the force of the internal spring, ie P1 = P2+P spring.</p>



<p>When the system pressure fluctuates, when P1 increases, the balance is destroyed, and the force below the diaphragm is greater than the upper side, so the diaphragm will move upwards, close the small differential pressure control valve spool, so that P2 increases and reaches equilibrium again. <p>On the contrary, the differential pressure control valve is opened so that the pressure difference of the regulating valve spool is always constant throughout the operation of the switch, so that the flow rate change through the valve is only one-to-one corresponding to the opening degree of the regulating valve.</p>

<p>Variable flow system hydraulic balance scheme</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Solutions to common phenomena of hydraulic imbalance:</h2>



<p>1. The system is uneven in temperature and heat. The running energy consumption of the pump is too high → hydraulic calculation, reasonable piping, the same program, static balancing valve. Dynamic differential pressure balancing valve or dynamic flow balancing valve, integral valve.</p>



<p>2. Variable flow system operation is out of regulation. The load is stable, but the room regulating valve moves frequently, causing the room temperature to fluctuate frequently. The system stabilization time is too long → dynamic differential pressure balance valve or integral valve.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-barton-224c-differential-pressure-unit">Barton 224C Differential Pressure Unit</h2>



<p>The 224C DPU consists of a bellows unit assembly (BUA) and removable pressure housings. within the BUA, flexible bellows are secured to a center plate. In dual-bellows models, the movable bellows are rigidly connected by a dual valve stem that passes through the center plate. Valve seats, in the center plate passage, form a seal with the valves. Contacting the valve stem in the center plate is a drive arm pivoted on the end of a sealed torque tube. The bellows are filled with a clean, noncorrosive, low-freezing point liquid. A range spring assembly provides tension against applied pressures.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Barton 289A Differential Pressure Indicating Switch</h2>



<p>The Barton Model 289A Differential Pressure Indicating Switch features a cover lens held in the bezel with an elastomer ring for protection from potential damage. This model’s indicator and switch mechanism are contained in a fume, moisture, and dust-free environment, thanks to the elastomer ring’s additional functionality as a seal between the case and bezel.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Differential Pressure Control Valve</h2>



<p>Differential Pressure Control Valves &#8211; also commonly called DPCVs &#8211; are installed in heating or cooling systems to control sub-circuit pressure to a set or given maximum.</p>



<p>Extremely efficient, the DPCV is set to a maximum differential pressure which ensures flow cannot exceed the desired rate. It, therefore, helps reduce energy consumption, and the risk of noise and simplifies the commissioning process.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Working Principle of DPCV</h3>



<p>A DPCV includes a diaphragm, a spring, and a capillary tube connecting the partner valve in the supply pipe and the DPCV valve in the return pipe to control the circuit pressure loss.</p>



<p>• ΔP Control</p>



<p>The DPCV diaphragm will regulate to control ΔpC (differential pressure across the circuit) depending on pressure impulse from the supply side and direct pressure from the return side. The spring force will equal the ΔpC.</p>



<p>In all ZECO DPCVs, the diaphragm will be a rolling diaphragm which will result in a very compact valve design. Depending on the Differential Pressure Control Valve selected, ΔpC may be fixed or externally adjustable.</p>
