Analysis of Merits and Drawbacks of Gate Valve Structures

Gate valves are in various structural forms, among which the common ones are wedge-type double gate, parallel single gate, parallel double gate, rigid gate, H-type elastic single gate. What are their merits and drawbacks?

The Wedge-type Double Gate Valve

Advantaged with a low precision requirement for the wedge angle and a well abrasion resistance under changeable temperature, it is easy to seal and convenient to repair. However, the structure is complex. Neither is it suitable for the viscous media nor for the ones with solid impurities inside. The wedge-type double gate valve is commonly used as power station valves.

The Parallel Single Gate Valve

Simple structured and easy made, it adopts a fixed or floating soft sealing, which ensures an excellent sealing performance with little wear. However, it can not be forced to seal due to its shape. The general type, together with the throttling and the diversion ones are the three types of the parallel single gate valve.

The Parallel Double Gate Valve

Its gate is pushed by the medium to the outlet seat sealing surface to achieve the single-sided sealing. If the medium pressure is not strong enough, the sealing surface is easy to be scratched and worn out during the switch process.

The Rigid Gate Valve

Although it is simple structured with a high precision sealing surface angle, it is difficult to make and repair. The rigid gate valve has a high possibility of being stuck in the case of changeable medium temperature.

The H-type Elastic Single Gate Valve

It can be slightly elastic deformed to make up for the deviation of the sealing surface angle by its H-type elastic single gate. It is advantaged with both the applicability to the deformation and the reliability of sealing. Its deformation ability, to some extent, lessens the difficulties of an overpressure opening. Therefore, the H-type elastic single gate is suitable for steam-like high-temperature medium.
