Hastelloy Alloy Material – Hastelloy Valves | Hastelloy Ball Valves

ZECO Valve generally supplies Hastelloy C276, B3, and A494 CW12MW gate, globe, check, ball, butterfly, plug, needle, and custom-made valves. Hastelloy valves come in many grades, most of them defined by the Haynes Corporation. Hastelloy B2 and B3 offer extremely high corrosion and temperature resistance and tensile strength and are difficult to machine. Hastelloy grade C-22 alloy, the norm that now replaces the former C276 is the most common valve material in this grade category. Under UNS, Hastelloy is listed as N10665, particularly C276 which is denoted as N10276, whilst the newer C22 comes are N06022. This corrosion-resistant exotic alloy is also listed as N10675 N06455. DIN norms also allow for the codification of Hastelloy under 5 different grades, mainly 2.4617 and 2.4600, but also 2.4602, 2.4819, and more rarely 2.4610. The most common form of cast Hastelloy for valves is A494 CW12MW.

What is Hastelloy Alloy material?

Hastelloy alloy is a corrosion-resistant metal mixture that is based on nickel. Hastelloy has a unique combination of properties that provide them with significantly stronger corrosion resistance capabilities compared to traditional alloys. The two main hastealloys are nickel-molybdenum (Ni-Mo) and nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr). The key elements that are often combined with nickel and their corresponding percentage concentrations are as follows:

  • Molybdenum (Mo) – 30%
  • Chromium (Cr) – 23%
  • Iron (Fe) – 29%

The corrosion-resistant Hastelloy alloys are widely used by the chemical processing industries. The need for reliable performance leads to their acceptance and growth in the areas of geothermal, solar energy, oil and gas, and pharmaceuticals. The benefits of Hastelloy process equipment include high resistance to uniform attack, outstanding localized corrosion resistance, excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance, and ease of welding and fabrication.

Hastelloy Alloy Applications

Hastelloy serves many different applications in these industry categories:

  • Chemical Process
  • Petrochemical
  • Oil & Gas
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Geothermal
  • Sea Water
  • Water Desalination
  • LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)
  • Biomass
  • Mining
  • Utilities
  • Nuclear Power
  • Solar Power

Hastelloy is very well suited to many industrial processes. The following are some of the environments in which Hastelloy is fully resistant*.

Hastelloy Alloy Material Grades

The most versatile of the Hastelloy alloys is the “C-type”. Hastelloy c alloys include:

  • C-276 – A Versatile, corrosion-resistant alloy. It has very good resistance to reducing and mildly oxidizing corrosives. Excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance with very good resistance to localized attack.
  • C-2000 Like all Hastelloy grades, the C-2000 alloy combines outstanding resistance to oxidizing media with superior resistance to non-oxidizing environments and represents a true performance breakthrough for chemical process equipment applications.
  • C-22 The Hastelloy C-22 properties make it particularly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion. Moreover, it has been used extensively to protect against the most corrosive FGD systems and the most sophisticated pharmaceutical reaction vessels.

Hastelloy Valve Overview & Application

In high temperature, severe corrosive, and aggressive environments, Hastelloy valves offer superior service life and performance when compared to common 304/316 valves.

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, Hastelloy valves are widely used in chemical, desalination, petrochemical, biotech valves, and pharmaceutical industry.

There are many types of Hastelloy valves such as Hastelloy B2, Hastelloy B3, Hastelloy C22, and Hastelloy C276. Hastelloy series alloys UNS are also known as N10665, N10276, N06022, N10675, and N06455. The DIN specifications are 2.4617, 2.4600, 2.4602, and 2.4819. The most common form of cast Hastelloy used for valves is the A494 CW12MW and A494 CX-2MW;.

The high-performance Instrumentation Hastelloy C276 Valves have superior resistance to various acids. For instance, the Hastelloy C276 Ball Valves have the ability to resist acids like sulfuric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, nitric, and chromic acid. The Hastelloy Ball Valve even has good localized corrosion resistance.
