Butterfly Valve Symbol – Top Butterfly Valve Suppliers and Manufacturers
In this article, you will learn about different valve symbols used in P&ID. Many valves are used in process piping, and each … Read more
There are two types of valve symbols — first, generic symbols, and second, a symbol with a modifier. Generic symbols will tell you that there is a valve in the line, but they will not tell you about the type of valve. Whereas the valve symbol with a modifier will tell you the type of valve used in the pipeline.
Generic symbols of Valves
The symbol of the butterfly valve is composed of two vertical parallel lines, with a diagonal line extending from the top of the first line to the bottom of the second line (P&ID symbol).
The two solid horizontal lines by the sides of the vertical lines indicate that butterfly valves are two-way inline valves used for flow control, either on/off or throttling. In the center of the two vertical lines and the middle of the diagonal line is a solid circle.
Similar to a globe valve symbol with two diagonal lines crossing themselves, the butterfly valve symbol is the only symbol where a full triangle is not used. Isometric symbols are used in isometric drawings.
Depending on disc closure design, connection design, and actuation method, Butterfly valves can be categorized into several types.
A gate valve will open or cut off the flow of water through a pipe. They typically have a wheel handle that gets turned to operate the metal disk that blocks the flow.
Its symbol looks like the outline of a bowtie with two straight lines crossing each other to form an “X”. Then two vertical lines connect the ends to create an enclosed shape.
There are three ways to classify the gate valve.
Globe valves, which are not ball valves, are mainly used to regulate flow. Their name from their exterior’s typically round shape, although newer globe valves do not always have a round exterior. They consist of a plane that is horizontal with respect to the pipeline. This plane will have an orifice. A plug of some form being lowered into this orifice is how flow is regulated.
The symbol of the check valve can vary slightly from company to company. Normally any one of the following check valve symbols is prevalent in industries.
Depending on the movement of the closure member, various types of check valves are available.
The balancing valve is during which the heating system and cooling systems are running. The static balancing valves and dynamic balancing valves create hydraulic balance.
